Gaulish ceramics

Along with wine transported in amphorae, black-gloss tableware, known as ‘Campanian tableware’, also arrived from Italy.

These imports of ceramics influenced local artisanship: the potter's wheel was introduced and shapes imitating Italic pottery began to emerge, alongside the existing traditional modelled ceramics, such as pots, baking dishes and bowls. Original productions appeared, such as bottle vases. With their curved shapes, and bodies with painted decorations, these containers were very likely to have been related to the consumption of wine.
