Excavations related to urban development of the Plateau de la Baille

Demolitions and earthworks carried out around the square ‘Place de la Baille’ in Mâcon involved the intervention of archaeologists.

In 1959, 1960, 1968 and 1982, they performed urgent excavations to avoid the destruction and disappearance of remains from earlier eras.

Observations made and specimens collected enabled a new understanding of the town’s old centre.
